Job Description
1) Core Purpose
Ideally looking for a qualified Clinical Associate with a minimum of 5 years
Post graduate experience in a primary healthcare facility.
2) Key Roles Outputs
a) To physically examine within your scope of work for patients visiting one of our healthcare centers
b) Accurate clinical evaluation of patient complaint, including initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment
c) Apply a holistic approach to patient evaluation
d) Determine appropriate treatment once diagnosed and refer if clinically justified
e) Minimize unneccsary referrals and encourage OTC utilization appropriately
f) Deliver appropriate information to healthcare users in a manner that is sensitive to their conditions and level of understanding
g) Promote health education with all members and provide support in a manner that enables them to live a positive and healthy lifestyle, to apply principles of self-care and to lower the risk of disease and injury
h) Safe, competent clinical decision making and expert care
i) Explain potential side effects of medication and provide patients with information and advice on prescribed over the counter medication
j) Recognize and work within own competence and professional code as regulated by the HPCSA
k) Prioritize, organize and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality
l) Deliver a quality service to all patients and staff requiring treatment
m) Self – monitor quality of work, improve areas identified by the Quality Assurance team and engage in continuous learning
n) Ensure thorough knowledge of products and formularies and apply in all cases
o) Keep accurate records of all activities and actions
p) Have experience in minor surgical procedures within scope of practice
q) Be able to work as part of a team and draft reports to Clinical Head.
3) Mandatory Qualifications
a) Completed Clinical Associate Diploma/ Degree
b) Registration with HPCSA
c) Drivers licence
4) Advantageous Qualifications
a) Primary Health care
b) Dispensing licence
5) Mandatory Experience/ Exposure
a) Clinical evaluation of patient signs and symptoms and appropriate prescribing for more than 5 years
6) Advantageous Experience/ Exposure
a) Primary Health Care and Managed Care experience
b) Minor surgical procedures as per scope of practice
7) Knowledge and Skills
a) Extensive MS Office knowledge required
b) Strong written and verbal communication skills
c) Good telephonic communication skills and telephone etiquette
d) Good listening skills
e) Strong administrative skills
f) Understanding of Managed Care principles an advantage
